First game for a month saw a home fixture against Phoenix.
On the 4G at Grange we've looked a good team so despite the lack of games we were expecting some good football.
We started well & Phoenix were struggling to cope with the pace of our play. We hadn't taken our chances though & it took a great pass from Luke Meadows to pick out Louis Sterling & his cool finish saw us go 1-0 up.
We created a lot more chances but last ditch defending from our opponents kept us at bay until a corner swung in from the right picked out Benj King unmarked at the far post for a close range finish.
2-0 at half time but we had been too casual & not on our game. From the sideline it looked like our lads thought it was too easy & they could stroll through the game.
We made a few changes but still looked like we were playing at half pace. We were sloppy & gave the ball away too many times. Despite this we went further ahead when Ryan Clay picked the ball up on the edge of the box & hit a powerful shot towards goal. A Phoenix player tried to get his head in the way but thought better of it & the ball hit the back of the net.
Phoenix were then given a lifeline with a mistake from our keeper. Rushing to take a quick dead ball he played it straight to a Phoenix striker & despite Harrys best efforts they were back in the game.
The 3 goal cushion was restored when a ball played into the right channel saw Ryan Clay put an inch perfect ball into the six yard box despite a late challenge. As I'm screaming for a foul Louis Sterling got across the defenders & got his 2nd goal with a great first time finish.
We made a couple of changes & a mistake at the back dwelling on the ball instead of an easy pass allowed Phoenix to get another goal.
We weren't in danger of losing but the sloppiness was annoying. Overplaying in the wrong areas against better opponents might have cost us the game.
The game was put to bed when Kai Milburn stuck his head in amongst the flying boots to score from close range.
5-2 at full time.
Man of the Match Benj King. Solid in defence & chipped in with a goal
